Installation takes less than a minute. Configuration is fast — add your data source(s), and you’re working.

Windows

1. Run setup.exe. Your system may ask permission to proceed — the installer is signed with a DigiCert certificate, which you can verify by clicking the Publisher link in the installer window.

2. Open Excel. The Exponam tab appears in the ribbon.

3. Enter your license key, or start with the free tier — import up to one million rows with no key required.

Mac — Databricks Delta Sharing

1. Open the downloaded .dmg file and drag the Exponam icon to your Applications folder.

2. Launch ExponamConnectUtility from Launchpad or Finder → Applications. This companion application must be running for the Excel add-in to function.

3. Set the utility to start automatically on login. Right-click the ExponamConnectUtility icon in the dock and select Options → Open at Login. Alternatively, add it via System Settings → Login Items. The application uses minimal resources in the background.

4. Open Excel. In the Home toolstrip, click the Add-ins icon. The “Exponam” menu will appear in the toolstrip.

5. Click Exponam in the toolstrip, then select Import Data. The task pane will open from the right side of the screen. Resize it by dragging the pane divider.

6. Click the (+) button in the task pane to add your Delta Sharing connections. Select the .share files provided by your Databricks administrator. Click a table in the connection tree to preview data, then use the import controls at the bottom of the pane.

If the Exponam menu does not appear in the toolstrip after restarting Excel, repeat step 4 to reactivate the add-in.

The Mac version currently supports Databricks via Delta Sharing only. It provides core data access and import, optimized for small to moderate data sets. Import speeds are approximately 10x slower than Windows — a 1.1 million row file imports in about 8 minutes on Mac vs. 12 seconds on Windows. Natural language query, SQL editor, ML model execution, and additional cloud platform support are coming to this platform.

Browser Excel (Office 365 Web) — Databricks Delta Sharing

Requires Chrome or Microsoft Edge. Safari is not supported.

1. Open Excel in your browser at office.com. Go to the Insert tab and click Add-ins.

2. In the Add-ins dialog, navigate to My Add-ins or Upload My Add-in (under the “Manage My Add-ins” dropdown or via the Advanced option, depending on your Office 365 version). Upload the Exponam.Connect add-in manifest file.

3. The Exponam add-in will appear in the task pane. Click the (+) button to add your Delta Sharing connections using .share files from your administrator.

4. Browse your connection tree, preview data, apply filters, and import to your workbook using the controls at the bottom of the pane.

Note: The add-in manifest is stored in your browser’s local storage. If you clear your browser cache or switch browsers, you will need to upload the manifest again.

The browser version currently supports Databricks via Delta Sharing only and shares the Mac edition’s capabilities and performance characteristics. Windows is recommended for power users and large data sets.
